UK and EU students not holding the appropriate grades or subject mix can study a one year foundation programme to gain guaranteed direct access to most courses.
Reasons to take a Foundation Programme:
Narrowly missed your grades?
Benefit from the full university experience (with student loan funding) without needing to re-sit and go through the UCAS process again.
Don't have the required subject mix for your chosen programme? The Aston Foundation Programmes allow students to change specialism without going back to college.
Science students wishing to build their business credentials, or linguists who want to spend their university life studying Engineering can change their path through our Foundation Programmes.
Bridge the gap to university level study
Foundation Programme students benefit from a full university experience and access the academic excellence of academic tuition from lecturers at a top 30 university. However they are also supported by Further Education (college) level teaching staff to ensure they have the study skills to allow them to flourish in an independent learning environment and university life.
Subject to some prerequisite grades on entry, or in your foundation programme, you can progress to almost any course at Aston, making competitive programs achievable.
Alternatively, students may wish to take their academic foundation diploma elsewhere if they wish to specialise in an area that Aston doesn't offer. For example, engineers may wish to move to our neighbours at BCU to specialise in Automotive Engineering at degree level.
Care Leavers and looked after children are one of the most underrepresented groups in Higher Education.
Aston supports these applicants in their efforts to enter Higher Education. To help these applicants achieve their potential we take special measures, including offering preferential grades.
