Student visa Working Conditions - Placements

If you have a Student visa and you'll be taking a placement as part of your course, you can work full-time in the UK during your placement as long as it is an assessed part of your degree.

For example, if you'll be doing a placement year as part of a 4 year undergraduate degree, your Tier 4/Student Visa will allow you to work full time during that placement year.

If your Student visa allows you to work in the UK (normally 20 hours per week), then you can work for that many hours in addition to your placement. When you are not on placement, the usual Student Visa working conditions will apply.

You are responsible for making sure that you don't exceed the maximum number of hours that you are allowed to work per week.

Please see here for more information about how many hours you can work on a Student visa, both in term-time and during vacation periods.

If you are unsure about how many hours you can work or the type of job you can do, please contact us. Remember you will need a National Insurance Number to work in the UK.
