Universities Adapt to Support More Engineers

Aston was one of the universities on the Pedal4Innovation 750km charity cycling marathon which staff from Silica completed last week. Some  of the money raised will be awarded to students to help pay for university fees.

Electronic Engineering Students on the IET stand at the Big Bang

Two Aston students spent a day on the IET stand at the Big Bang exhibition demonstrating Theremins that they had designed as part of an entrepreneurship module.


Electronic Engineering Society lab opens

12 February 2012

First year Electronic Engineering students have taken on the running of an electronics laboratory to enable them to work outside of timetabled classes. The lab is open to all society members 9-5pm every week day. It is hoped to move to extended access once the trial period is over.


Graham Lee wins £500 IET Travel award

 PhD student Graham Lee has been awarded £500 by the Scholarships Committee of the IET  to support a study trip to the Data Storage Institute in Singapore.


Richard Chambers wins second prize in School of Engineering and Applied Science video competition

Final year Electronic Engineering student Richard Chambers won second price in the School of Engineering and Applied Science video competition. The video described a first year project where he designed an audio amplifier that fitted into a wall plug socket.


Aston student wins national IET Competition

Aston University PhD student, Graham Lee, has won this year’s UK final of the Institute of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Present Around the World competition.

His talk entitled ‘Machining in a world smaller than a human hair’ impressed the judging panel at the event, which was held in Birmingham City Centre, at the IET’s Austin Court facility.


Theremin performance

Mr Underwood performs Steve Reich's pendulum music using theremins designed by first year student Valentins Ganins as part of a summer project at Aston. The performance took place at the HandsOff 2011 theremin symposium.


Electronic Engineering rewards its most successful students Competition

Each year we have the pleasure of distributing a number of prizes to the most highly performing students. This year’s prizes went to Thomas Barnett, Bander Alrouli, Ahmed Mohammed Saleh, Oliver Maskery, Kishan Bharwad, Richard Shaw, Monika Obrocka, Alexander Poole, Michael Belcher, Huw Ayling-Miller. Seven students transfer to new MEng

01 July 2011

Seven second year students have transferred to the recently launched fast track MEng programme. They will take additional classes over the summer before the complete either an industrial placement or a study placement at a European University. When they return to Aston in the autumn 2012 they will take Master’s level modules to complete their MEng.
