The University has entered an agreement with two suppliers. Specialist Computer Centre will provide us with Lenovo desktops, notebooks and monitors; and Academia will provide us with any Apple branded equipment.
You can download our recommended product guide from the link to the right. The full details of recommended computers and monitors can be found in the product guide for Lenovo equipment and in the Academia portal for Apple equipment. Pricing is correct at the time of publication.
Access to the Academia portal is currently restricted while it is being configured. In the mean time if you have a requirement for any Apple PCs please contact the IT Helpdesk.
The equipment specifications given are designed to be suitable for almost all of the University's requirements. If you are unsure which device best fits your needs or it you feel that you require a different specification please contact us to arrange for a support engineer to discuss your specific needs.
Delivery times from point of order is dependant on the equipment. Standard Aston recommended specifications are usually available within 1-2 weeks, however the delivery times for non-recommended devices will be extended by 3 to 4 weeks due to the shipping time from the manufacturer.
The table below shows the warranty level provided with each PC. These warranties are a requirement of the University and cannot be removed.
If you wish to purchase an internet/personal tablet please read our purchasing guidelines before contacting the IT Helpdesk with your requirements. Due to the fast development of these products we do not currently recommend a specific tablet.
For IT consumables (e.g. USB Flash drives and external hard drives under £100) it is not necessary to contact IT Services for a quotation. These item can be purchased directly from our supplier, Academia. For any other equipment or if you are unsure please contact the IT Helpdesk for advice.
The table below defines the minimum specification of PC (desktop or notebook) that IT Services will deploy to staff through the University's ‘ Redeployment & Disposal of IT Equipment Policy’.
The above PC specifications are suitable for running Microsoft Office 2016, standard productivity tools (e.g. Adobe Reader), other basic software and browsing the internet. It is recommended that you run only one or two applications at a time on this specification.
