Progression criteria for the International Foundation Programme in Science and Foundation Programme in Science

Progression Criteria

Applicants for the International Foundation Programme and the Foundation Year at Aston University should be aware that the School of Life and Health Sciences operate the following progression criteria for progression onto undergraduate degree programmes based in the School of Life and Health Sciences programmes as follows: 

 Undergraduate ProgrammeFoundation Programme Requirements

BSc Healthcare Science (Audiology)*

*Please note that BSc Healthcare Science (audiology) is unable to take international students due to placement requirements.  

50% or more overall PLUS: 

50% in Senses and Perception

50% in Mathematics for health scientists

50% in Physics for Health Scientists

50% in Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology

50% in Biological and Biochemical Science Foundations

40% in remaining modules.

In addition: upon application to the foundation programme you should have specified your intention to study your chosen programme. This is to ensure that (i) your entry qualifications to the foundation programme have been verified as acceptable (ii) we reserve you a place on the 1st year of your chosen programme in anticipation of your success. Requests for changes will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

 MPharm

60% or more overall PLUS: 

60% in Mathematics for health scientists

60% in Physics for Health Scientists*

60% in Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology

60% in Biological and Biochemical Science Foundations

60% in Senses and Perception

60% in Foundation Chemistry 1

60% in Foundation Chemistry 2

40% in remaining modules. 

*For international students who are studying English Language modules this is not a requirement.

Pharmacy applicants will also be invited to attend an interview with the admissions tutor to assess suitability for the programme.

50% in Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology

50% in Biological and Biochemical Science Foundations

40% in remaining modules.

BSc Neuroscience

BSc Biochemistry          

50% or more overall PLUS: 

50% in Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology

50% in Biological and Biochemical Science Foundations

50% in Foundation Chemistry 1

50% in Foundation Chemistry 2

40% in remaining modules.

BSc Optometry/ MOptom



 

60% or more overall PLUS: 

60% in Mathematics for health scientists

60% in Physics for Health Scientists

BSc Psychology and Sociology

50% or more overall PLUS: 

50% in Developmental Psychology

40% in remaining modules.

In addition: upon application to the foundation programme you should have specified your intention to study your chosen programme. This is to ensure that (i) your entry qualifications to the foundation programme have been verified as acceptable (ii) we reserve you a place on the 1st year of your chosen programme in anticipation of your success. Requests for changes will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

Candidates passing the Foundation Programme / Year but not reaching this level of performance will not be automatically guaranteed progression onto their degree of choice, although will be offered an alternative programme at Aston University (School of Engineering and Applied Sciences).
