Optician and dentist There is an optician and a dentist in the Aston University Health Clinics building, just behind the Library. Students are welcome at the opticians where free eye checks are carried out by final year Optometry students under supervision. Reasonably priced spectacles, lenses and contact lenses can be purchased following the eye check if required.
Henderson's Dental Surgery (entrance on the south side of the Health Clinics building) charge £18.50 for an assessment and provide advice on whether further treatment can be offered at Hendersons or whether students need to be referred elsewhere such as to a NHS practice. Henderson's offer an independent dental service to students who are able to pay.
The Birmingham Dental Hospital, just across the road from the University, is a free alternative source of dental care. For more information, please click here.

UK students are advised to show their UK medical card, which has their NHS number printed on it, to speed up the registration process with whichever doctor you choose to register. You may find it helpful to know that as a UK student, you have the option of remaining with your home GP even though you are studying in Birmingham. Click here for details. However if you suffer from a chronic health condition, having a Birmingham GP may be a better option.
International students and EU students click here for information about UK healthcare. You are advised to register with a local doctor/GP in case you need medical assistance whilst you are studying at Aston University.
